FINANCE MANAGER

Worthington Presbyterian Church is seeking a Finance Manager accountable for maintaining all church accounting and related financial records. Additionally, accountable for providing the Church Treasurer, Executive Administrator, Facilities Manager, Finance Committee, and other users of church financial information with timely and accurate reports in support of the mission and ministry of the congregation.

REPORTS TO:
  • Executive Administrator

 SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Bookkeeper

RELATIONSHIPS:
  • Works with Senior Pastor, Treasurer, Finance Committee, Generosity Committee, Preschool, and other church committees and staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (including, but not limited to):

Financial Records
  • Maintains all church financial records including: payroll, all account reconciliations, including congregation member contributions, vendor payments, financial statement preparation, requested reporting in support of church operations, and supporting analyses and financial statistics, preparation of required 3rd party reporting in support of Federal and State requirements.

Accounts Receivable & Other Donations
  • Reviews quarterly and annual contribution statements before sending to contributors.
  • Prepares authorizations for monthly ACH transfers. 
  • Reviews pledges to Capital Campaigns and other special programs and prepares related financial reports.
  • Arranges for the sale of stock, bonds or other real property when given as a donation and accepted by Session.
  • Reviews gifts and sends acknowledgments for Endowment and Memorial Funds upon acceptance by Session.

Accounts Payable
  • Establishes new vendors in software.
  • Reviews and validates check preparation and payments.
  • Tracks use of church credit cards, including their setting up, closing, user compliance with policy, and card payment processing.

Payroll
  • Prepares data for semi-monthly payroll entry into ADP by Financial Assistant.
  • In coordination with Department Supervisors tracks vacation and sick leave, 403(b), FSA and Study Leave of staff. 
  • Prepares and submits Workers Compensation semi-annually reports.
  • Manages collection of form W-4 reports and prepares and submits 1099 tax reports.

 Additional Responsibilities
  • Attends, actively participates in, and supports the monthly Finance Committee meetings.
  • Reviews bank reconciliations, monthly and year-end funds reports; tracks key metrics.
  • Reviews Preschool financial statements, reconciles accounts, processes bill payments.
  • Supervises Bookkeeper in preparation of monthly accounting entries.
  • Co-ordinates with Membership & Fellowship committee to determine active membership numbers.
  • Reports the church’s financial status to persons, groups, and entities as appropriate in the pursuit of church business and supports the budgeting process.
  • Works with outside CPA by supplying information and any necessary support for annual external review of financial records.
  • Serves as contact for sale of Columbarium niches.

 QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent experience.
  • Strong knowledge of general accounting concepts and principles and familiarity with church-specific (funds) accounting concepts and principles (preferred).
  • Proficiency in use of a general ledger and related systems including familiarity working with a core, integrated enterprise reporting system. (Oversight responsibility for database integrity is a core responsibility of the position).
  • Proficiency in Excel.
